Warning to Peterborough dog walkers as toxic blue green algae found in lakes

Dog walkers are being urged to keep their pets away two Peterborough lakes after toxic algae was found in the water.

Blue-green algae, which can be lethal to dogs has been found in a small lake at Orton Mere and the hotel end of the rowing lake at Thorpe Meadows.

A spokesman for the Nene Park Trust, which runs the lakes, said: “Blue-green algae has been found in the small lake at Orton Mere and the hotel end of the rowing lake at Thorpe Meadows. Blue-green algae is toxic for both people and animals so please keep your dogs away from the water. Thank you!”
