Popular Peterborough attraction Railworld Wildlife Haven is set to reopen to the public in May.

The attraction based on Oundle Road was forced to close for much of its peak time and to its school tours it regularly hosts in both 2020 and 2021 but has now revealed that it will reopen to the public on May 19.

The popular site includes its own Global Earth Centre, model railways, authentic signal boxes, locomotives and beautiful wildlife habitats.

Volunteers have been working hard, when allowed, throughout the various restrictions to get the site ready and were helped earlier this month when Tesco donated a large number of seeds and bulbs to help the gardens bloom ready for reopening.

The charity have also been planning what they can do to further improve their habitat and have been planning to turn the old power station cooling channel at the north of their site, that has become clogged up and full of weeds, to create a new habitat island, connected via a Victorian Railway footbridge donated from Spalding Station many years ago.

A spokesperson from Railworld said: “Volunteers at the ‘Railworld Wildlife Haven’ have been beavering away, social distancing of course, during Covid. We still have lots to do - we want to open everything but we can’t do this until Wednesday May 19th so sorry it is such a long wait. We are really missing all our friends, it will soon be here.”

A full list of opening dates have yet to be revealed but to stay up to date, visit www.railworld.org.uk/ or facebook.com/Railworld.
